My decision to work in the backyard yesterday, despite the somewhat muddy ground, turned out to be prescient. It's another soggy day today. Technically, I suppose that's not prescience at all since I had no supernatural foresight into the weather, merely the report of a meteorologist. Then again, our weatherman is so bad that the decision to actually believe him when he said it would rain last night and today does require a leap of faith.
In addition to getting some nice spring rain, today is notable for something far more important. It's Tuesday and that can only mean one thing - gardening cocktails at a seriously inappropriate hour of the morning!
Coming up with something to drink today was tricky. The weather doesn't really lend itself to gardening. It's more of a stay-indoors-and-admire-the-fruits-of-my-labor-through-the-window sort of morning. Clearly, the only drink that will really do is Irish coffee. Unfortunately, our liquor cabinet had no Irish whiskey to be found. However, we do have some American rye whiskey (a key ingredient for Old Fashioneds), and that will do for coffee in a pinch.
To prove that I'm not all talk and no action when it comes to actual, real gardening and yard work, I've also got a few pictures that will completely justify my laziness (and early morning drinking) today.
The mucked out hen house, smelling fresh as a daisy. |
Pearl, enjoying fresh straw in the coop. |
You may not notice the lack of low-hanging tree limbs over the top of the chicken coop, which, until I removed them yesterday, provided wasteful, deceitful squirrels easy access to the coop and garden. |
You should have used that MD 2020. That would have been delicious. I wonder if the shelf life of MD 20/20 is as long as the Four Loko that now resides in our fridge. It spent a good year in yours. I can bring that over tonight, and you can use it make coffee with tomorrow. And, I will look for our brush pick up notice. We have the same ones. Or just throw it out in the yard like the people down our street. It has composted itself into nothing now which is nice since it was taking up a lane.
ReplyDeleteMmmm Bulleit Rye. I have taken to using this plus a generous amount of club soda as my drink dessert to round out an evening of IPA. I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that it is probably a bad idea, but the little darling is so damn delicious. Perhaps it is a better idea for starting the day.
