It's all down hill from here

I'm sure my regular readers have realized that since starting this blog, Tuesday has quickly become my favorite day of the week. By Tuesday morning I'm coasting towards the weekend. Not long after the inception of The Nearly Constant Gardener, I somewhat arbitrarily chose Tuesday as the day to recommend an appropriate cocktail for enjoying the various outdoor projects that I can only assume everyone else is working on at 9 o'clock this morning.

Today we're going with a simple classic, bourbon and 7-up. I'm sure this drink has some ridiculous name to make it sound much classier than it actually is, but I'm in no mood to look it up this morning.

My quest to find Patrick a female duck companion yesterday proved to be a resounding success. Not only did I manage to find a really cute little duck, she also seems to have quickly taken a shine to Patrick. Patrick, on the other hand, is taking his time to warm up to her. As a matter of fact, yesterday he seemed downright terrified of her. She's probably not half his size, but she spent most of the day chasing him around the yard only because she wanted to stand next to him. He couldn't get away fast enough. He seems to be a bit more willing to tolerate her presence in his general vicinity without freaking out and running like he's being chased by a mad dog today.

Rosemary the Adolescent Duck
Even though I outsourced the naming of our new chickens, which are still unnamed by the way, I decided to take on the responsibility of naming the new duck myself. Because she seems to have a strange affinity for our rosemary bush, we call her Rosemary. She actually tried to climb into the bush yesterday. It was adorable (and me without my camera). I think "Patrick and Rosemary" has a nice ring to it.

Another water lily opened yesterday. The last one was pink, but this one is a pretty pale yellow. If you'll recall, these are growing in a large stock tank that we bought so the ducks can pretend it doesn't exist.

  1. Welcome to Dear Roseamary who seems to be a fiesty gal! Yay! I can't wait to meet her! And, how come Patrick is nervous? Maybe he has a chicken fetish. She's cute, so he'll latch on to her!
